Health claim

Our Villa Pardillo olive oils has been analyzed in an accredited laboratory and by the date of analysis it´s proven that both our Picual and Arbequina varieties fulfills the minimum levels with good margin to bear the claim. See certificates below. Picual shows levels more than three times higher(15 mg/20g) and Arbequina the double(10 mg/20g).

The Regulation (EU) No. 432/2012 [2] of the European Commission of May 16, 2012 has defined a list of permitted health claims and the European Register of Nutrition and Health Claims (EU Register of Nutrition and Health Claims) has provided food reports on all the authorized health indications, conditions and restrictions of use, as well as unauthorized health claims and the reasons for their inapplicability.

There is an authorised health claim that ‘olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress’ on the basis of human studies showing significantly reduced levels of oxidised low density lipoprotein (LDL) in plasma after virgin olive oil consumption. The claim may be used only for olive oil that contains at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives per 20 g of olive oil(about one tablespoon). There is evidence that various phenolic compounds (such as oleuropein, tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol) found in virgin olive oil may be responsible for the beneficial effects on cardiovascular disease. The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20 g of olive oil.
